AhlulBayt News Agency: The Israeli regime has escalated its military operations in Syria, launching a wave of airstrikes that targeted multiple locations across the country. Local journalists reported that Israeli fighter jets carried out at least 20 strikes on Friday night, hitting sites in Damascus, Dara’a, and Hama, focusing on military positions and supply depots.
Among the targeted locations were an old Syrian army camp near Shatha village in Hama, a battalion headquarters north of Damascus, and military camps in Dara’a. Powerful explosions rocked Damascus and its surrounding suburbs, including Harasta, where a civilian casualty was confirmed. Israeli media reported that some positions in Damascus had been struck for the first time.
Since the collapse of President Bashar al-Assad’s government in December, Syria has faced intensified Israeli occupation across large parts of its southern territory. Hundreds of Israeli airstrikes have devastated military infrastructure, primarily sites formerly belonging to the Syrian army.
Earlier on Friday, Israeli warplanes attacked near the Syrian presidential palace in Damascus, marking Israel’s second assault in Syria within a week. The regime claimed the strikes were in support of the Druze community, which has been engaged in clashes with HTS-backed militants near Damascus, further fueling sectarian violence. However, the Druze have historically resisted Israeli expansionism, notably in the occupied Golan Heights.
As airstrikes continue, Israeli Minister of Military Affairs Israel Katz stated that Israeli occupation forces would remain in southern Lebanon and Syria indefinitely. Reports from Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen TV suggest that Israel is constructing two new military outposts in Damascus countryside, facing the Hasbaya district of southern Lebanon, solidifying its presence in the region.
Despite repeated overtures from HTS leader Abu Mohammad al-Jolani to engage with Tel Aviv, Israel’s military actions persist. Meanwhile, US Congressman Cory Mills revealed that Jolani had expressed his intent to normalize relations with Israel, allegedly sending a message for President Donald Trump regarding diplomatic engagement.
